In 2019, we were living the life we’d always led. We had a nice home in an English village. We had good businesses, contented children, and a busy life.

But we also had a dream. You probably know the kind of dream we mean: that low-grade, only-semi-serious idea of a life you’d like to create…until real life pulls you back into line and gives your shoulders a shake.

Our dream was to live in France.

And the chances are we’d have carried on with that half-dream…taking holidays in France as often as we could, and while away rainy Saturdays making fantasy plans for a new life in the sunshine. Until it was too late, and we were looking back at our life and imagining what might have been…

Thank goodness we were saved from all that regret and instead made the dream come true – and it’s thanks to the magic of Château du Treuil.

One day, over a real coffee or perhaps a glass of fabulous French wine, we’ll tell you the full story between that day and this.

Suffice to say that we seized the day and sold up. We put two children, one dog, two rabbits and two pet rats into a camper van, drove south west for 15 hours, put our belongings into storage while we negotiated several months of legal paperwork then unleashed a huge programme of building work to make it our own.

At moments it was beyond stressful. But we are incredibly glad we did it!
